How We Create Impact

The And Then What Foundation is designed to be a convener, catalyst, incubator, and connector, and most importantly a resource for helping participants succeed.

We will prioritize helping participants and their families who have been impacted by our criminal legal system succeed. This will be accomplished by asking the questions

Our Focus

The strongest solutions are built with communities—not simply delivered to them.

We bring together leaders from education, workforce development, justice, business, government, philanthropy, technology, and community organizations.

We also believe lived experience belongs at the table where decisions are made. Our goal is not simply to create more programs. It is to build stronger partnerships capable of creating lasting change.

The question we ask:

We brought everyone to the table. And then what will we build together?

Leadership & Community Partnerships

Technology should expand opportunity rather than deepen inequality.

Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are rapidly reshaping education and work. The Foundation will explore how technology can be used responsibly to expand access, strengthen organizations, prepare people for changing careers, and ensure that communities too often left behind are included in the future.

The question we ask:

Technology is changing everything. Who gets to participate in what comes next?

Technology & AI for Good

Getting a job should be the beginning of economic opportunity—not the end of workforce development.

We support strategies connecting education, skills, employers, career advancement, entrepreneurship, and economic mobility. We are particularly interested in populations and communities that have historically faced barriers to opportunity.

The question we ask:

You got the job. And then what?

Learning should create pathways, not just credentials.

We support approaches that connect education to meaningful next steps throughout a person’s life.

Our work may include adult education, career-connected learning, correctional and reentry education, professional development, digital learning, and innovative educational models.

The question we ask:

You completed the education. And then what?

Education & Lifelong Learning

Workforce Development & Economic Mobility

Research, Innovation & Systems Change

Good ideas should become better practice. Better practice should influence systems.

We support practical research, pilot innovative approaches, measure outcomes, share lessons, and help successful ideas grow.

We believe impact should be measured not simply by how many people participate, but by what becomes possible because they did.

The question we ask:

The program worked. And then what?
